Opening of Non-Disciplinary Research Laboratory “alt lab” and Presentation of Workshop Results
Event date & time: 28 December 2019, 6 pm
Location: “alt lab” laboratory, SODAS2123 cultural centre (Vitebsko 23, Vilnius, room 304)
Creative workshop titled “Lactose intolerant? Let’s employ bacteria!” was held 7–8 December 2019 in an alternative non-disciplinary research laboratory “alt lab” located at newly established cultural centre “Sodas 2123”. Presentation of results of this workshop will take place on the evening of 28th December 2019 in the same location. Everyone interested in art and science projects, in the influence of microorganisms to our health and in related possibilities to work with those microorganisms is invited to join this event. This evening will also mark the opening of non-disciplinary research laboratory “alt lab”.
“Alt lab” will fill the gap between the growing interest in ecology, contemporary art and rapidly developing biotechnologies. Members of “alt lab” will exchange their knowledge, will de-mystify scientific experiments and will explain difficult artistic decisions.
“As we observe how digital machines take over technical tasks from humans and creative solutions are needed in the light of ecological problems, we aim to create an environment for development of these solutions. We see this development as inseparable from strengthening of non-disciplinary research laboratory and implementation of contemporary (bio)technologies. We will search for innovative creative solutions by implementing projects together / in collaboration with artists and scientists and by employing scientific and DIY methods.” – states the initiator of the laboratory Mindaugas Gapševičius.
Participants of creative workshop: Bon, Auksė Gaižauskaitė, Mindaugas Gapševičius, Elisabeth Kovtiak, Lina Rukevičiūtė, Rūta Spelskytė.
“alt lab” laboratory is supported by Institutio Media. Creative workshop is supported by Lithuanian Council for Culture and Nordic Council of Ministers.
Partners: Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists’ Association, Synthetic Biology Organisation.
